When a Knife Attack is Unstoppable

by | Aug 13, 2020

I wanted to offer up a video on one of the most important topics we cover during our Knife Defense Workshops. In our ongoing campaign to be completely honest about knife defense “techniques” that do not work, Richard Dimitri and yours truly show the range at which point knife defense is virtually impossible! Well nearly impossible if left to chance, luck, the planets aligning. First, check out the video, and I will offer some additional thoughts.

In this video, a demo, which makes a real attack much more difficult to defend against, shows how the hand is quicker than the eye. If you add in the reality of a violent scene with the adrenaline, lack of awareness, environment, concealment, plus so much more, you see how any memorized or choreographed defense is 99% useless. One’s best chance of survival is in the pre-physical stages of violence, where you might be able to increase your chances of survivability.
The cheapest, easiest to acquire, and most common weapon used in violence is the knife and other forms of edged weapons. More dangerous than and twice as treacherous as a gun at close range, the blade is by far one of the deadliest tools used in violent confrontations and can be found in every single kitchen household.

The 2 Day workshop extensively covers the psychology behind an edged attack, the recognition of behavioural patterns, body language, how to evade and escape, and dozens of drills to improve your close quarter arsenal against an armed attacker.

Topics covered include static and dynamic attacks, attacks from the front and rear, controlling the weapon hand, and dealing with the dreaded rear handed pump and stab, or being grabbed by the lead hand, how to increase perception time while decreasing reaction time. And using functional gross motor skills during the adrenal stress conditions phase. Overkill mentality and performance enhancement and survival strategies are successfully used by security personnel, bouncers, law enforcement officers and soldiers worldwide.
That said, there is absolutely no guarantee nor is any self defense system fool or variable proof as there are way too many factors to determine absolute success, or in this case, survival. Anyone telling you different is full of shit and desperately trying to sell you something.

What this and all our workshops offer is a differing paradigm along with functional and easily adaptable concepts, attributes and skills to enhance your survivability in a knife attack, not guarantee it. There are no techniques to memorize, no-frills, just plain truth on defensive edged weapon attacks.
