I Do Not Need Self Defence, Until
Several years back, I was teaching violence prevention & self-defence to a small group of women who dealt with Human Trafficking victims in their First Nations community in Northern Ontario.
On my journey home, I was changing flights at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport. A gentleman saw my SAFE Self Defence jacket and initiated a conversation. I will always remember his one statement. “I don’t need self-defence.” I replied, “No one does until they do,” and then I walked away. A few moments later, I turned back to look at him and saw him standing there with confusion on his face.
If I have said it once, I have said it 1000 times; Apathy & Denial are two of the biggest obstacles to your safety. No one needs self-defence until they do.
